Behind the Scenes: Exerpts from Gidget’s “Sex and the City” Set Diary

Although Gidget is an extremely well-trained and experienced actress, that didn’t stop her from “improvising”on the set. During a scene in the “Sex and the City” movie, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Smith Jerrod, (Jason Lewis) have an intense discussion and in response to their emotional pitch Gidget proceeded to whine. Michael Patrick King said ” Cut! Gidget,who gave you those lines? And why are you stomping all over your co-stars?” Kim reassured Gidget that everything was ok and the actors reshot their serious scene. Afterwards, Kim said to Mary ” Gidget is the most empathetic dog I have ever met! ”
Although this was one of only a few times that Gidget was not totally on her mark, it did work to her advantage- after seeing Gidget’s dramatic potential, Michael Patrick King asked for close-ups of Gidget whenever there was an emotional “moment” among the human actors.
