Gidget’s home town Phoenicia Needs Your Vote for the Coolest Small Town Contest!

Budget Travel, the ”world’s most useful travel magazine” has nominated 20 American towns to be in their annual “Top 10 Coolest Small Town” contest and Phoenicia is one of them!   The criteria for this designation is “…a town with a little bit of an edge, more avant-garde than quaint” and we all know that the coveted award is custom made for our small Catskills village of Phoenicia.  However, there are only 10 slots and the winners are determined by an online voting process that allows 1 vote every 5 hours.  The contest ends on February 11, 2011 and the winners will be featured in the September 2011 Budget Travel Magazine.  Given that our small town has a population of only 433 residents, we will need to reach out to all of our friends, neighbors, and anyone who has visited Phoenicia and have been captivated by its mountains, rivers, music festivals, parades, celebrations, seasonal color, art, performances, sports and activities and get them all to place a vote for us on the Budget Travel website (www.bit.ly/coolestsmalltown).  Not only will our town get the much deserved recognition that comes with this prestigious designation but wonderful events like the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice and area businesses will all benefit from the international spotlight on Phoenicia as one of the “Top 10 Coolest Small Town in the USA”!

Many musicians love Phoenicia and come up frequently to vacation, jam, write, perform and help us with fundraising.  For example, James Blunt, Sierra Swann, mini- Gene of mini-Kiss, the School of Rock, Vince Sherman, the Format, Ingrid Michaelson, Dana Fuchs, Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship and the Donnas have all made trips to Phoenicia and love its quirky vibe.  Just another reason to vote for Phoenicia as the “Coolest Small Town in the USA”  on Budget Travel!

Ever been to an Animal Dance? Well, this is what one looks like! This fundraiser, hosted by the non-profit “Friends of Snuffy” organized an animal costume party (complete with a contest for the sexiest animal) raised money to help local pets in need.
